I could get used to this, crossed the line, Birds, beauty
I am on day 5 of a 5 day weekend and I have to say it has been pretty damn nice. With that much time off, I had plenty of time to do a few things around the house and still have tons and tons of free (WoW) time to spare. With Ali out of town, it’s just me and the pooch. I really have enjoyed my hiatus from the normal and ordinary routine.
I haven’t been particularly well rested from it however. Most nights I was up late playing Warcraft and then Nicki consistently woke me up no later than 7am every morning. On Friday night I had my drunken WoW party. I put down double digit Zimas and was hoping to chat with my buddies up north who also are in the game while I was hammered, but alas, the voice chat server was down. Oh well.
I finally pushed it too far with my knee. Last year when I started playing volleyball again, after I played I basically would not do anything strenuous with my legs for the next 2 weeks. As time passed and I experienced less and less pain afterwards, I started doing more and more. Well this past week I finally overdid it. I played in the tournament last Saturday, then on Sunday I ran 2 miles and walked 2 miles and then the following Tuesday I did legs with Ali at the gym. I didn’t have a big painful event at the gym but I think I know when it happened, doing my last set of exercises on a leg press machine. I went heavy and remember feeling/hearing a little something in my knee. Well it has been sore for the last week. Sore enough that I didn’t even run on Sunday. If I tore something in there that means I can expect it to feel this way for quite awhile which could bring an early end to my vball season and curtail my Sunday runs with Ali that I have come to enjoy so much. I’m rather pissed at myself.
I haven’t said much about the Eagles, especially considering the circus with TO. I am along with the majority who think TO is a big idiot. What sort of moron is able to turn one of the most heroic performances in Super Bowl history into being the cities biggest villain in the span of a few months? The situation is ridiculous. Who the hell in pro-sports has EVER wanted to renegotiate on year TWO of a seven year deal???? I, like all other Eagles fans thought we were getting the older, wiser, more mature TO, we were wrong. I watched the first preseason game last night. There was a lot of sloppy garbage play but I saw some good things from the offense. McNabb threw well and all the WR’s minus TO did a real nice job of catching balls. The rookies Reggie Brown and Ryan Motes both looked great which is a huge plus. Even if TO is not a part of the team this year, the Birds will do well. I am not predicting a Super Bowl return but they sure as hell aren’t going to miss the playoffs this year like so many SB teams have in recent years.
I talked many times about just how beautiful parts of living in florida are. The sunrises and sunsets are just amazing. I suppose the reflection off the nearby gulf is what makes the sky so brilliant at these times. In the summer there is an added attraction, the storms. Sometimes the thunderstorms are just as visually dramatic. Last night I saw heat lighting arc for miles across clouds. It was a non-stop show. Earlier, right around sunset, to the west there was brilliant pink and purple clouds against blue sky, but then as I looked to the north and East it was almost pure black and gray clouds with thick bolts of lightning raining down every few seconds. For a second I thought I was in between heaven and hell, it was that weird.
Back to work tomorrow but only for 2 days, then I have another 4 days off because Keener is coming down to visit. It should be a good time. He has never been here in the brunt of summer.
