V-day wrap up, 3 day weekend
Our Valentine’s Day was far from fancy. On the way home I stopped at Publix and got a pizza to make for Ali. The store was swamped with men grabbing last minute cards, balloons and flowers. I already handled the flower part of the holiday the day before. Ali didn’t get home from work until 7:30. I had the pizza ready to go and we ate it while watching American Idol from Wednesday. I felt bad for that Josiah kid that didn’t get picked. I said to Ali I can’t imagine the degree of disappointment the kid had to be feeling.
Then we watched Moment of Truth. In this episode the guy on the hot seat was a fat happy Hispanic guy. Of course since he was fat it slanted my view of him negatively to a degree. When he said that he had gastric bypass surgery (and ate through it) it turned the dial more the wrong way. The guy cheated to lose weight and STILL lacked the willpower to do the right thing, pretty pathetic. One of the people on his panel was his mother. She may have been fatter than her son. I swear to god she looked almost EXACTLY like a female version of Jabba the Hut. Anyway the guy made it to the 100k plateau and stopped. He managed to get there without looking like a total asshole. To me the most damning thing was the admission about eating through gastric bypass, which wasn’t even a lie detector question. Although one question was if he was concerned about dying because he was fat, to which he said he was. I guess he isn’t all that concerned. I just get so turned off by people that can’t control what they shove in the hole in their head. This guy was bragging about how much he loves his wife, loves his family, yet he is unwilling to take the steps necessary to maximize his chances of living a healthy long life to spend with them. Whatever.
Oh yea back to Valentine’s Day, well there isn’t much more to tell. Ali was happy with my efforts which is all that matters in the end.
I have had a busy week of work, upgrading two servers to new hardware. All in all both upgrades went relatively smooth. I love when a plan comes together.
The weekend will be chock full of stuff. I fired up the sprinklers in the area that was filled. Some sprinklers were able to pop through the fill and spray normally. Some were too far buried and only bubbled water to the surface. One of the sprinklers appears to be damaged as it shot water straight up in the air. So I have to adjust/fix these. After work I am buying landscape timbers to replace the border along the back of the pool cage. Per Bill’s recommendation, I want to use the tractor to drag some fencing behind it to smooth out the filled area even further. Saturday evening we have the big 5k up in Fort Myers. There will be over 1000 people running in the race and many thousands lined along the route waiting for the parade to start. It will be the first 5k race I have participated in in about a year and a half. Good for me. Sunday afternoon we are picking up mom. She is staying over and then since I have Monday off we are going up to the outlets for shopping. I need a new pair of sneakers a pair of pants or two. I am looking forward to showing mom the freshly graded back yard as well as introducing her to the world of Wii.
