Craigslist near miss
Our washer is on it’s last legs. There evidently is something wrong with the clutch in the unit. As a result when you wash large loads the tub is unable to spin in a balanced manner. When it enters spin cycle many times you hear a tremendous banging noise as the tub swings around wildly inside the washer. The momentum is enough to make the washer walk across the utility room floor, sometimes a couple feet. When we thought the refinancing was a done deal we planned to replace the unit as part of the home improvement package with one of the new front loading models. The washer and dryer we have are the original models that came with the house.
Well now that the refinancing is severely in doubt we need to try to come up with some less expensive ways to get things done. I was checking out Craigslist yesterday and stumbled across someone selling a Kenmore front loading washer/dryer set. The ad said they were 2 years old and they paid 4k for the set new. She was selling them with the matching stands for $600! Wow! After quickly looking up thew model number and seeing these were really good I quickly emailed the woman to ask if she still had them. I didn’t hear anything back until later in the evening. She said she had them but there was someone supposed to come out to look at them at 8pm. If they didn’t show she said I was next in line.
When I told Ali about the deal she was very excited. At 8:10 the woman emailed me that they weren’t there yet and that if they weren’t there soon she would let me know. My excitement built at the possibility of scoring a hell of a deal by dumb luck. My hopes were crushed when the woman emailed me at 8:45 saying the people showed up and were loading them up now. Shit. Oh well I guess I’ll just keep looking.
