Wall Street, gimpy, scuttled
Last night I decided to mostly forgo the computer and instead sat down to watch Wall Street : Money Never Sleeps. I was a big fan of the original movie. I thought it was funny that Charlie Sheen did a brief cameo in this latest edition. I thought Michael Douglass and Shia LeBouf did a nice job in their roles. I enjoyed the movie right up until the last 10-15 minutes when they insisted on jamming a lollipops, rainbows and bubble gum happy ending onto the film. It was rushed and didn’t seem believable at all. Even with the dumb ending I overall liked the film and would give it a B+. Michael Douglass is a great Gordon Gecko.
I have a couple injuries popping up. I have had some right heel pain popping up here and there. I am hoping it isn’t the start of planar fascititis, a common runner ailment. My right knee also suddenly is causing me enough pain to induce a slight limp. The pain is actually across the back of the knee instead of my normal discomfort inside the joint.
I’m not quite sure how I tweaked the knee. Yesterday after my run in with the creepy, unfiltered Camel smoking Craigslist guy I actually stopped at the water park to do a brief work out. I remembered there was a playground right next to the water park although I never really checked it out in any detail.
Just like most things in the Collier County Parks & Rec system, the playground was top notch. I had the place to myself, there wasn’t another human being around. I walked around and surveyed the equipment to see what sort of body weight exercises I could do. I wound up doing lots of pull up variations, dips, push ups, assisted muscle ups and more. My knee felt fine before that so I am wondering if I somehow tweaked it when I was doing decline pushups which can stress the back of the leg. Regardless of how I did it, the injuries are going to be putting a bump in the road of my run training.
So it looks like we officially are not going to be doing a summer road trip this year. We had been considering taking a north easterly route this time around where we would incorporate my playing in the Pottstown Rumble into the trip. The decision to not do it this year was influenced by the ridiculous price of gas right now, Ali’s nieces vacation plans and the my dad’s booking of the family adventure to Ireland in August. Alison also will be heading to Chicago for her first ever marathon in October. That is more than enough travel for me.
Despite abandoning the trip I am still considering flying up to PA for a long weekend to play the Rumble with Charlie. It is still up in the air. I also said to Ali maybe a winter road trip might be kind of fun since the dogs enjoyed themselves in wintry western PA in mid-February.
