Quick weekend update, voting, vette red ink, cold revenge

My weekend was pretty damn busy. Friday evening and half of Saturday were spent doing a server upgrade. We moved one of our core servers from a Pentium Pro 200 box to a dual XEON rig. The initial part of the upgrade was a disaster. The tape backup turned out to be bad and the tape drive, that I had tested earlier in the week, for some reason decided it didn’t want to be recognized by the new server. So after numerous hours of trying to make the tape solution work, I decided to scrap it and just do a backup to a file instead over the network. This option worked great and also turned out to be much faster than the tape based option. Once we abandoned the tape mess, everything else went smooth as silk. I have another server to do yet and based on what I now know it should be a piece of cake.

Florida has early voting. I don’t remember this option in PA, but down here, as of today, I can go next door to the elections office and cast my vote. It’s a nice convenience and allows me to vote without being submitted to the day of election, political activists that mull around the polling places handing out junk.

After I got home Saturday I decided to jump on the tractor and tackle mowing the back 2 acres of our property. I hadn’t done it all summer so the grass/weed/brush was very high and dense. It required me to mow very slowly in many spots. After I got done with the mowing part I immediately jumped in with the weed whacker and knocked down the weeds in the 3 deep trenches. Total time of project, 3 hours +.

Sunday I had one more major chore to do that I have been putting off. The pool cage over the wet season gets a lot of mildew on it so I hammered away with the pressure washer on it for a few hours on Sunday. Looks much better now.

As I paid the bills on Sunday night, I decided to do a quick report in Quicken to see how much I spent on the Vette since I bought it. Aside from the initial expense, I threw another 1500 bucks into it that was immediately flushed down the toilet from the sale. It made me feel better about ending the bleeding. I hadn’t even started to tackle some of the big ticket fixes on it yet.

The Eagles hammered the Panthers. It was nice to invoke some revenge for the embarrassing loss in the championship game last January. It is sort of amazing it wound up being 30-8, because in reality, the birds didn’t play all that great. Carolina has been wrecked by injuries this year so it wasn’t like the Eagles were playing the same team they did 10 months ago. Regardless, it was a good win. It says something that they can win by that margin, even when putting in a subpar effort.

Ali has been gone for a week and a half now. It’s really getting to be a drag. I fly up this Thursday to join her and then we will fly back on Monday. I’m looking forward to Monday.

We had our first “cold” front blow through this weekend. It was great, low’s in the lower 60’s, high around 80 and low humidity. I love fall/winter (something I never thought I would say 5 years ago)
