The setting back of clocks used to really seal the deal up north for me as it signified the true start of a long and dreary 5 or 6 months. By now it meant warm weather was going to be a memory for quite awhile and it would be dark around the time I got done work each day. I forget the medical term for those weird people that get real depressed with winter months but whatever you call it, I had it. Now the time change has much less affect on me. Although losing that hour is a pain in the ass, for whatever reason, even with the clock change, it doesn’t get dark here any earlier than 6:15. Must be a closer to the equator thing.
This weekend was rather busy as it was the first weekend we were both home at the same time in nearly a month. We had some interesting projects. Originally I had entertained the idea of building an additional closet in our bedroom to house things like the laundry baskets and our medicine cabinet type of stuff. Ali seemed less than thrilled with the idea. I think she doubted my ability to make the closet blend in with the exisiting room. I reassured her I could but in the meantime we came up with another plan. I eyed up the cabinet we use to put our pet supplies in. Hmmmm, I drew up some mental plans where we could mount the baskets on the bottom and use the top as the medicine area. We took some measurements and headed out Saturday. We found wash baskets that just barely fit. I pulled out the old shelves and installed thin wire shelves to make it all fit. Now we have 6 wash baskets, 3 on each side on the bottom of the unit. I’m pleased with the final result. It holds everything quite well while not being a permanent fixture in the room.
We will finally be completing the final phase of the ceramic tile project in the next few weeks. I have been avoiding it like the plague since I disliked the first phases so much. I even was entertaining paying someone to do it. I got a quote of around 500 bucks to do it. But after some pondering, I decided I was just being lazy and that 500 bucks could go towards something else. When the contractor looked at it, he said he would just go over the existing vinyl, he indicated there would be no issue in doing so and he just did our neighbor’s house using the same technique. So that info made the scope of work much easier for us, as all we would need to do is sweep and rough up the vinyl with sandpaper as opposed to going through the grueling stripping process again. Our neighbor had a bunch of tile left over so we just bought some boxes of tile from them. The tile was a nuetral color and similar to what we used in the other areas. The spare bathroom will be done with the same tile and pattern as the kitchen as it is visible from the great room. Our bathroom will get the different tile and we are going to lay it in a diamond pattern. It’ll be a relief to put that project behind us.
The full moon this weekend was exceptionally bright. Although it doesn’t always seem to be the case, there are times that my moods definitely seem to be altered when the moon is full and they don’t shift for the better. This weekend was one of them, I was pretty miserable most of the weekend.
The Eagles won but again looked less than impressive doing so. I’ll take the W anyday, can’t argue with 7-0!
As we went for a walk on Sunday, a car that was coming towards us stopped and they were looking at the side of the road at what looked to be a big snake. They got out and the redneck looking guy was poking it with a stick, it was a big dead rattlesnake. Even though it was dead, Ali steered clear of it. As we passed we saw the guy doing something with it. We soon realized that he popped the rattle off of it. Hmm okay just what I would want, a rattle from a snake, yeeeehaw.
Get out and vote tomorrow!
