Free Stern, Funny WoW
You have heard me spout the praises of satellite radio, specifically Sirius since I got it almost 2 years ago. I love it. The Stern channels are just great (if you like this sort of humor) A big bonus of Sirius is you can stream their music channels and the Stern channels over the computer, it’s included with your subscription. Well for 2 days, October 25th and 26th they are opening up the internet feed to ANYONE. They are betting that if you hear it, you will want it and I bet there will be quite a few new subscribers that will do exactly that. If you want information on it, click here. During those 2 days Howard is doing some great shows including a roast of Gary and a new half hour sitcom called the Bitter Half. Also check out Bubba starting at 3pm on 101. He can be dirtier than Howard but he is also very funny.
I saw a link to a hilarious video on the message board for my WoW clan. It is a cartoon that someone made to go along with an audio clip of a raid leader in Ventrilo. Ventrilo is a program that allows people to do voice communication during games. It is used in WoW to allow the raid (raid – large group of people teamed up to do the big quests in Warcraft) to coordinate their actions. Raids are what are normally the huge timesinks in the game because the quests they tackle are very long and getting 20 to 40 people on the same page is a huge pain in the ass. This is why I avoid them like the plague.
Well anyway, some guilds (guild – group of Warcraft players that are on the same “team” and generally help each other out in game) are almost militant in their ways. They treat Wow like a job and their “job” is to complete these big quests and as a result get better equipment for their characters by doing so. A lot of guilds use a system called dkp to decide which person gets what equipment. People are awarded dkp points for doing stuff like showing up on time, not going AFK (away from keyboard), staying online through the entire quest, doing a good job, it’s silly. When an item drops you bid your DKP points on it, high bid gets it. Well anyway in this clip you hear the crazy militant raid leader, barking out instructions and when his instructions are not followed he flips out and screams how people are going to get negative DKP for screwing up. It is pure insanity and funny as hell to listen to, made better by the graphics that this guy put to it. Warning, it is filled with bad language and some shady images, but man is it funny. It gives you a glimpse into how serious many people take the game. Thankfully I draw the line way before that point. If you don’t know the game, it sounds like he is barking out a foreign language, unfortunately I know what it all means. Here it is.
