Grit and spin, AI
Yesterday at the gym I saw yet another funny example of exercise technique. Once again it was an older guy, probably in his 50’s. He was standing there doing barbell curls. Every few reps he would stop, close his eyes and roll his head back and forth. A couple more reps a couple more rolls. It looked incredibly funny. He had bad form on the exercise as well, allowing his elbows to slide back behind his body, decreasing the benefit of the exercise. I noticed that one woman who I talked about awhile back, the one that I always saw meeting up with some guy in the parking lot before or after her session, had been MIA for awhile. Then last week she appeared again sporting a noticeably bigger bosom. That a girl!
Last night was a big night for Nicki. While Ali was at ballet last night I got Nicki to go through her dog door with the flap down without me holding it. Once Ali got home we showed her Nicki’s new trick. Nicki was very proud as she came through and received the applause and cheers from us.
We got a late start on watching the American Idol finale since Ali didn’t get home from ballet until 9:20 or so. The show was surprisingly entertaining. Let me check my mental notes:
Gwen Stefani was one of the early performers (via satellite which was dumb) neither of us cared so we FF’d through her.
The girl and guy contestants did group performances, the guys with Smoky Robinson, whom sounded fine although his face was eerily still. His eyes were so wide open he looked like he would have to staple them shut to go to sleep. He also must pour Botox on his Cheerios in the morning.
The girls sang with Gladys Night. Melinda really does remind you of her.
I was shocked to see that Kelly Clarkson was there. She has pretty much distanced herself from the show since winning it 5 years ago. Perhaps it is because her latest record is struggling. Even though she still was pudged out, I think she did a great job on the song and sounded great. I still think she is the best of all of them.
There was that train wreck in the middle of the show where Sanjiya came out with Joe Perry from Aerosmith and performed. Wow Aerosmith really doesn’t have anything going on nowadays huh? Embarrassing.
Paula Abdul looked wasted, again.
All of the the other past Idol winners were there except Fantasia which was very interesting. Carrie Underwood’s performance of her current hit wasn’t that good, she sounded off. However she definitely woke up and now looks the part of a star. When she was on the show she had a few extra pounds. She since has gotten on some sort of fitness program and is in tip top shape. (unlike Kelly)
Ruben was there, whom I hadn’t heard hardly a peep from since he won. He wore a pinstripe suit because it is supposed to be slimming, I guess. He still looked to be closer to 400 pounds. He sang ok though.
Taylor Hick’s song was the worst of the bunch although he puts such energy into everything it does, he made it mildly entertaining.
Blake did an entertaining beatbox performance with Doug E Fresh. Blake was better than Doug E.
Tony Bennett showed up and did a high energy performance (for a guy in his 70’s) I liked it.
Another surprise was Green Day being there. Green Day was one of my favorite bands. It sort of felt like a bit of a sell out having them on the show but I thought they did a decent job.
Later in the show they did a tribute to Sgt Pepper for some reason. They had all of the idols sing abbreviated versions of the songs off the record. I think Carrie did the best job in that set.
Late in the show another surprise, Bette Midler comes out. Woah, she sucked. She has old lady voice now. They said she is taking over for Celine Dion’s Vegas show. I hope they are cutting the ticket prices 75% . She was really bad. I told Ali I thought I was listening to Martha Ray, you know the one that used to do the denture cleaning commercials.
Like I said, the show was surprisingly entertaining and we finally are winding down to the end. I am looking at the timer on the Tivo. It has like a minute left and they are just going to commercial. WTF? The same thing happened with Tuesday’s show. It is in the tv listings as an hour show but it ran longer. They did the same damn thing last night so we missed the money shot where Jordin gets crowned. I had to jump on the internet to see who won, although I already assumed it was her. She deserved to win and best fits what an American Idol should be. Once a personal trainer gets ahold of her she will be the total package and will probably have a long career ahead of her. Imagine being 17 and having all of this on your plate already, amazing.
Ali and I are both so f’ing tired from day after day of reality show finale marathons. We didn’t get to bed till about 11:30 last night. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…….
I have stumbled across some Biggest Loser shows on the bedroom Tivo. I find this show strangely addictive. Human carwrecks trying to fix themselves.
