Ballet

I forgot to mention that last week I actually went to sit in on one of Alison’s ballet classes.  Since getting Alison a gift certificate to the dance studio two Christmases ago she has become ballet crazy. She now goes three times a week.  It’s a bit of a pain for me because it is part of the reason I come home to an empty house 3 times a week, but, whatever.  Two of the three classes Alison takes are actually the youth classes and she just participates as a big kid I guess.  I know if it were me I would feel real weird about doing that but Alison has no problem with it and in fact has fun interacting with the kids.  So I sat outside the studio on a very hard wooden chair along with a couple mother’s of the kids.  I brought along a magazine to read but didn’t read much of it once they started.

There is a 14 year old boy in the class.  I felt bad for him as it looked like he was struggling with many of the moves. The kid has balls taking ballet.  I can’t say I would have ever entertained such an idea at 14. The little girls were cute doing their thing.  I could tell Ali takes ballet seriously as she did her best to follow the instructor commands closely.  Ballet looks incredibly monotonous and boring to me but Ali loves it.  I got through the 1:15 class with few problems besides being uncomfortable on the  hard chair.  On occasion I found myself looking out the window at the old people doing lawn bowling, so funny.  So class ends and everyone comes out.  I was sort of surprised Ali didn’t formally introduce me to her instructor.  We grabbed our stuff and hit the road.  It was interesting to see what Ali has been spending so much time doing over the past year.  I can’t say I have a burning desire to go watch again, although if she ever got into a recital or show or something I would go of course.
