Busy
It feels like there are a ton of things to do. It’s amazing how just one weekend away can throw a wrench into the works. Last night I tried to put a small dent in the things to do by doing some laundry and cooking the beets that had been in our fridge for a long time. I never cooked beets before so I called up my mom and got some quick instructions. It wasn’t a hard process although since some of the beets were on the big side they were in the boiling pot for around an hour. They turned out well.
Ali has her recital on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. This time it is at one of the local high schools. I am going to both performances. Mom is going to come with me on Sunday.
We have started doing some prep work for our big trip out west in a few weeks. When we did it in 2007 we went the most direct route out to my dad’s place in New Mexico. This time we are throwing around going a different, longer way that would take us up into the middle of the country before heading down to SW New Mexico. With Google Maps it’s real easy to tweak your route. Simply grab the route and drag it wherever. We were even talking about going far enough north that we would go through Kansas. Why would someone want to go through Kansas you ask? No good reason, just to see it I suppose.
We haven’t definitively decided on any route yet. Going that far north would easily add another couple days to the already lengthy 2000+ mile trip. I figure on the trip back we will jump back on the direct route home. Once I have home base in sight as the goal I want to get there asap.
We also are making pet arrangements. We don’t have any people we know that we would want to bother to come out to our place to tend to the cat and the bird while we are gone. So we are looking into the pet sitter route instead where you pay someone to come out and take care of your pets. Ali got a recommendation for someone through the Humane Society. However she charges $20 a visit. With us being gone for close to two weeks that would add up to a rather hellacious bill. I told Ali that Spook and Tuki would get by just fine with every other day service.
I’m looking forward to the trip, it should be a lot of fun.
