3 days

I get to enjoy a three day weekend thanks to MLK day on Monday.  I have a bunch of things I want to get done and Sunday I’ll be timing the biggest race I’ve ever done, the half marathon which currently has 1800 runners registered.  It also will be the first half marathon that Ali has ever done.  She had to stop her training a couple weeks ago because her knees were giving her some issues.  I’m sure it will be a very emotional moment for her when she crosses the finish line.

This afternoon I am finally going to be taking my first Microsoft test in at least 3 years if not 4.  I’m pretty confident that I’ll pass it pretty easily.  I’ve spent at least 30 hours going over practice exams.

I haven’t mentioned the disaster in Haiti although that is what has dominated the news obviously.  There is a large Haitian connection in SW FL, we have a number of Haitians that work here and Ali has even more that work at the nursing home.  It’s hard to imagine having a disaster like that go down and have such inadequate emergency services available that your only option is foreign aid.  This is the biggest disaster since the tsunami.  The images coming out of the area with dead bodies piled up like trash are enough to shake up anybody.

How did you like Pat Robertson more or less saying that the Haitians had this disaster coming because they embraced the devil in exchange for being relieved of French rule in the 1800’s.  This was god’s way of making them change their evil ways.  Need I give any better example of why religion when applied in an overzealous manner is f’d up?  The scariest thing is Robertson represents millions of similar thinking people.

If there is a God, I would certainly hope his idea of a good time isn’t ripping apart an area that was already mired in some of the worst conditions in the western hemisphere.
