Heavy, disgusting

When I walked into the gym 2 of the guys I talk to were messing with the shoulder shrug rig. The stronger guy had 405 pounds on it. His buddy tried to budge it off the ground and couldn’t. The stronger guy could shrug it once. I took it as throwing down the gauntlet. Although I couldn’t shrug it, I did get it off the floor and was able to stand with it. The hardest part is keeping your grip. The stronger guy was impressed since with my long, lean build I have to move it twice as far.

Later he told me something that just wrecked me. Up until a few months ago there was a couple that worked out at the gym when I did. I talked to the woman on a very regular basis and I talked to the husband, a cuban guy in his late 20’s, semi-regularly. She got a job in a different area of the county so they both started going to another gym. They have only been married a year or so and she has a 8 year old daughter from a prior marriage. Evidently he is now in jail facing possible life in prison for attempting to rape the daughter. The doctor that examined the daughter said it was “the worst case of sexual battery he had seen on a small child” (from the local paper)

I was floored. The guy seemed to be hard working, friendly and “normal”. I never had any inkling that he was off in any manner. I feel terrible for the woman, she seemed to be great and I can’t even begin to describe how bad I feel for the daughter. I saw her several times when she would come to the gym with her mom. This is the most shocking thing that someone I have personally known has ever done. And I had no clue, no hint, no reason to ever suspect there was anything shady about this guy.
