Party time!
Last night I received the materials from HouseParty.com for my Windows 7 launch event October 23rd. I was surprised by all the stuff I got for absolutely FREE. The box included:
Streamers
Balloons
Windows 7 jigsaw puzzle
Windows 7 shopping bags
Windows 7 napkins
Windows 7 playing cards
Windows 7 poster
Various hand outs with discounts for various software
and most importantly a FREE copy of a SIGNATURE edition of Windows 7 Ultimate in both 32 and 64 bit flavors.
I was thrilled with my collection of loot. It almost made me feel guilty that nobody has agreed to come to my party. I think there were some technical difficulties when my invites went out though. Certain people I invited said they never saw the invite. So if you are bored on Friday the 23rd come on over!
I guess the least I can do is install Win 7. I think my game plan will be to buy a new hard drive to load the OS on from scratch, that way all of data will be intact on the old drives until I get a chance to migrate it over.
After work today I get to time my first evening race. There is a pretty good turn out for the event. We will probably have 400+ participants. The majority of them will be novice runners so it should be an interesting scene.
Mom called and told me she is all set to start collecting social security in January once her 62nd birthday clicks by in a month or so. If mom can score a part time job that should be enough to pay the bills when combined with her SS benefits.
I was reading a little about the latest version of the health care bill that is getting drug through the mud in the senate. The proposal is having various shit tacked on left and right while lacking the public option that would offer coverage to those who have none otherwise. To me, if a bill that comes through that does not offer health coverage for those that are currently uninsured is a monumental waste of effort/money/power.
Obviously traditional lobbyist backed politics is winning this battle. The insurance companies have politicians on both sides of the fence bought and paid for. As a result no meaningful change will take place because insurers will pay a fortune to prevent it. It’s disappointing and sad.
Obama at this point seems willing to accept a package that is a far cry from what he hoped for originally, just so he can say that SOME sort of health care reform has been enacted. When I read a line that says the “bill would reduce the number of uninsured people in the United States by about 29 million by 2019” I know the bullshit meter is off the charts. Posting guessed numbers a decade in advance as a basis for justification is a joke. We can’t wait 10 years.
Despite the best intentions, even Obama seems unable to win against the countries biggest nemesis, no not Republicans, lobbyists. We are so f’d…..
