Mired in meeting, f’ing phone, Duluth
Last night I sat in for Ali at the running club board meeting. Two hours later I wished I hadn’t volunteered. These board meetings have a bad habit of running very long, last nights clicked in at right around the two hour mark. It seems that a lot of the same discussions go down meeting after meeting and these discussions carry on for long periods of time as various board members reiterate their position. Hell last night we even had a board member come in with a written statement. I don’t function well in that sort of environment and found myself doodling on a piece of paper quite a bit.
Apple released an update to their Iphone OS last week sometime, version 3.13. It’s fix list was rather short, one of the things it supposedly did was address an issue where the 3GS would display inaccurate battery levels. I installed it without thought, realizing the update meant little to my 3G phone. Well I was wrong, this update had a huge effect on my phone, it KILLED my battery life.
All of a sudden my phone would be next to dead every morning after being fully charged the night before. The battery life was cut in half at least if not more. I have an older 3G model. Ali has the newer 3GS yet she had the exact same problem. Her battery life which was already poor went to atrocious overnight.
Doing a quick search on the net revealed that we were far from alone with our problem. Tons of Iphone users had their battery life tank after applying 3.13. I did some more digging looking for possible solutions (until Apple releases a patch to fix the patch) There were some threads that indicated that somehow 3.13 screws up phones that are Activesynching with an Exchange server or any push email system.
The recommendation was to make sure that you didn’t have any open ended, recurring calendar items with no stop date. It was also recommended that you disable the push email, restart the phone and then re-enable the push email. I tried these suggestions yesterday. I woke up this morning with my phone nearly dead once again. Grrrrrrr. I guess more investigation is in order. Until it’s rectified I need an Iphone charger on hand at all times.
I have bought some clothes for both myself and my dad from a great place, Duluth Trading. They make rugged, durable clothing that is A+ quality. For Christmas I bought my dad a shirt that is made from the same material that they use to cover fire hoses. Their catalog is jammed full of great items that any guy (or girl) that works hard would appreciate. They also have a bunch of old throwback items that I think are very cool. Take a look, you won’t be disappointed.
I have reenabled the lightbox feature for images. I’m hoping it doesn’t break the blog for some people like it did in the past. They released an updated version. Simply click on the image and watch the magic.
