Livedumb

As I was on my way home from work yesterday waiting at a traffic light, I glanced over to the car in the next lane. It was a newer Pontiac Grand Am with one of those yellow “Support the Troops” magnets on the back. The driver side window was down and hanging out was a man’s arm with one of those Lance Armstrong, “Livestrong” yellow bracelets that are used to help fund cancer research. In the hand attached to the arm was a cigarette that flicked the used butt onto the road just as traffic started to move. On top of the annoyance this instantly generated inside me, it also struck me as ironic and stupid on several levels.

Those magnets are just this years version of the window flags. If you want to support the troops, send them money, write them letters and tell them how much you appreciate them, or better yet, enlist and give them a hand. They certainly would welcome the help. The magnets do nothing but make a “me too” statement. Does anyone NOT support the troops?

The yellow LIVESTRONG bracelet is bought to fight cancer through research. Yet it’s wearer was smoking a cigarette which is like laying down the welcome mat for cancer to move right into your lungs.

Finally, you would think and individual that cared about the troops, cared about fighting cancer would also care about the environment. Evidently not as that butt he casually flicked into the roadway will remain there for a long time to come.

Live dumb, real dumb.
