Fueled by fire ants

Last night I wanted to take another shot at the normal mode of this month’s Bar-barian challenge.  On my first attempt I went over the top with being slow and controlled, turning in a very slow time of 4:50.  I wanted to try to go much faster this time without throwing form out the window.

Prior to the attempt I had a couple pinches on my ankles that I disregarded.  After the third pinch I realized that my right sneaker was covered in fire ants.  I took my sneakers off and smacked them together to propel the fire ants off of them.  I decided to just do the attempt in my socks so I wouldn’t get bitten mid-set.

I pulled in a good time, 2:53, a huge improvement.  I was also pleased that my form didn’t suffer much with the faster pace.  My time got me out of the cellar in the standings.

I still have been waking up in the middle of the night, last night was a little different though, I woke up between 1 and 2am.

My thumb is pretty functional at this point.  The swelling that more or less immobilized the thumb for a couple days is better but the thumb still hurts.  The pain has shifted into the thumb joint.  It just feels sore, almost what I imagine arthritis feels like.  I am hoping it continues to heal.

This weekend we have a race at a new venue to time which is always dangerous.  The first year of a race is the toughest since a lot of bugs are normally flushed out.  This race is back and forth over the bridge that connects Marco Island.  It will be a tough run for the participants, that bridge is steep and long.

We are taking mom out for a belated birthday dinner on Saturday night as well.  Other than that we will just be doing what we do.
