One more time

So I hurried home last night and got busy with van maintenance.  I threw it up on the ramps and changed the oil and filter.  Every time I do this with the van I always emerge from underneath it feeling like I am running on borrowed time.  You see the party van spent the majority of it’s life in the brutal snowbelt of Michigan.  As a result the underside of it is one big rusty mess from countless road salt baths.  It almost seems impossible that the van has carried me as far as it has with that much corrosion going on.  I am crossing my fingers it will get me through one more trip.

Speaking of the trip, the storm that is supposed to hit Wednesday night into Thursday sounds positively awful.  My hope is that by the time we enter into the start of the kill zone later Friday that road crews will have made things passable.  Even if that is the case, I have no doubt there will be some challenging driving conditions I will be encountering.  If the forecast holds, it will be absolutely frigid when we pull into my dad’s place on Saturday.

So anyway after changing the oil I also topped off the coolant and windshield washer fluid, two things crucial to cold weather driving. I plan to grab a fresh set of wiper blades as well on the way home tonight.

Tonight I will be doing more prep in earnest, as expected.
