New back, Unbelievable loss

Saturday morning I spent four hours in the office working on replacing all of our network backbone switches. The new switches are much better than what we had in place but I made an oversight when I laid out my mental plans to replace them. Two of the locations have wall mounted racks which housed a 48 port switch. Well the new 48 port switches are physically much deeper than the old models. Wall mounted racks typically are shallow and can not accommodate something full length. I didn’t think about this until we tried to fit the switch in, which was at least 3-4 inches too long. Luckily I had a bunch of new 24 port switches which were still deeper than the originals but we could squeeze them in, barely. So we wound up with two 24’s instead of one 48 port switch in those two spots. Other than that things went smoothly. The network backbone should now be able to outlast my remaining tenure at the office.

On Sunday the low light was listening to the Eagles lose a game in incredible fashion in London. Once again the offense was ok in the first half and disappeared in the second half for the third week in a row. However despite this they managed to squeeze out a drive at the end of the game that got them in field goal range, which they converted to go up 17-16 with 8 SECONDS to go. 99 times out of a 100 the game would/should be over at that point when the opposing team has no time outs. Hell it may be closer to 1 in 500.

Instead not one but two ridiculous things happen. Siriani decides to kick the ball off conventionally instead of squibbing it or kicking into the end zone to limit the Jaguars starting field position to the 40 with time for only a hail mary. Ridiculous thing number two is the Eagles special teams allowing the returner to run straight down the field for almost 60 yards, putting the Jaguars in game winning FG position with one second left. They made it.

It was one of them most awful losses I can recall where they literally snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Siriani got tons of heat for the dumb decision, deservedly so. The special teams should be embarrassed to allow that type of return in that scenario. It was pathetic. To make things worse more players went out with injuries. This teams starting line up has disintegrated since the start of the season. Five games in with three losses in a row the Eagles are in disarray. The future is not looking bright.
